Content Introduction:
The purpose of the survey of plant and animal resources is to collect information on the composition, distribution, population size and habitat environment of the organisms within the survey scope, so as to understand the factors that affect the structure of the organisms and provide environmental protection and biological conservation. Since its establishment in 1992, the Center for Research and Conservation of Endemic Organisms has been deeply engaged in the work of surveying plant and animal resources and has accumulated a lot of field survey experience and professional knowledge. The Institute of Traditional Chinese Medicine is the only national public institution for the research of traditional Chinese medicine in Taiwan. In order to promote traditional medicine, enhance academic research, education and seed preservation, the natural environment of Pingxi District, New Taipei City was selected as the base of the medicinal plant garden. Considering that before the development and utilization of the natural environment, the current status of local plants and animals and the ecological environment should be understood in detail, the "National Medicinal Botanical Garden Biological Resource Survey of the National Institute of Traditional Chinese Medicine of the Ministry of Health and Welfare" project was promoted. The one-year biological resource survey provides the National Medicinal Botanical Garden with detailed basic animal data: 21 species of mammals in 13 families, 48 species of birds in 20 families, 13 species of amphibians in 4 families, 14 species of reptiles in 7 families, and 53 species of butterflies in 5 families, including many endemic species in Taiwan, protected wild animals, and precious and rare protected species. The animal survey team combined the survey data with the writing of animal characteristics and ecological habits, and photographed the animal ecology, which can be used as an auxiliary tool for the development and management of the park.
