Content Introduction:
The purpose of the survey of plant and animal resources is to collect information on the composition, distribution, population size and habitat environment of the organisms within the survey scope, so as to understand the factors that affect the structure of the organisms and provide environmental protection and biological conservation. Since its establishment in 1992, the Center for Research and Conservation of Endemic Organisms has been deeply engaged in the work of surveying plant and animal resources and has accumulated a lot of field survey experience and professional knowledge. The Institute of Traditional Chinese Medicine is the only national public institution for the research of traditional Chinese medicine in Taiwan. In order to promote traditional medicine, enhance academic research, education and seed preservation, the natural environment of Pingxi District, New Taipei City was selected as the base of the medicinal plant garden. Thinking that before developing and utilizing the natural environment, the current status of local plants and animals and the ecological environment should be fully understood, the "National Institute of Traditional Chinese Medicine, Ministry of Health and Welfare National Medicinal Botanical Garden Biological Resource Survey" project was initiated. The one-year biological resource survey provided the National Medicinal Botanical Garden with detailed basic plant data of 258 genera and 387 species, including endemic species, narrowly distributed species, and species listed in the Red Data Book of Plants. The plant survey team combined the survey data with writing plant morphology, photographing plant structure and ecology, which can be used as an auxiliary tool for park development and management.
